City Talk 1548 AM & DAB closed & Pete Price show cancelled

Post by michaelfarrie »

This was a bit of news recently the 1548 AM frequency went off the air having been the home of Radio City in various incarnations since 1974, Radio City the original, City Talk the first time, City Gold, Magic 1548 and then Radio City Talk. It has also been the place where the Pete Price phone-in could be heard.
Pete has been off air since late March and now won't even be allowed to Greatest Hits in the North West & North Wales.

At roughly the same time as this Bauer announced that many, if not most of the stations it acquired over a year ago would be rebranded to expand the Greatest Hits network massively, in the North West, Wire. Wish, Tower & Wave Blackpool are all set to become GHR. Signal 107 covering Oswestry and most of Shropshire & the Black Country is also set to become GHR. Signal 1 & Pulse 1 will be part of the Hits Radio network but like most others in the network so far are retaining their names but are only set to have a local breakfast show, Lincs FM & Pirate FM in Cornwall are to be at first left alone.

The update to this is that he has now joined Liverpool Live which is on the NE Wales/West Cheshire DAB multiplex so you can still listen to his sunday night show, what were Bauer thinking getting rid of this once a week but very good local content show, could have easily continued as a small opt out on GHR North West. He's getting a decent amount of callers still (not me yet!), but in the first couple of weeks said he was still waiting for a letter for the Peaceful Hour (also resurrected by this station!), I've only listened when I have happened to be in the car of a Sunday night (as would most normal people!) but is sounding pretty strong.

In other local talk show developments I've noticed that Alan Beswick (once the host of the legendary phone-in on Red Rose radio that "wound up scousers" back in the 80s) has expanded his reach of BBC local radio stations for his now much tamer late night phone-in from BBC Manchester & Lancashire, to also Merseyside (but only seemingly on a Sunday night)
Roy Basnett who once hosted a phone-in on Red Rose/Magic and also Rock FM on sunday nights for a short while in the Noughties has also turned up on Liverpool Live he has now been moved to the drive show from the evening, Roy Basnett fairly often filled in for Pete Price on City Talk, and if you miss Billy Butler banter from Merseyside he now has joined Liverpool Live with a Sunday morning show that also features replays of "Hold Your Plums".
