It was with great sadness that we learned over the weekend that a longtime presenter on Reach OnAir, DJ Andy Brookes, tragically passed away. We have seen large amounts of support & messages be sent in over both private and social channels from fellow DJs and listeners, and the Reach OnAir management team wished to add our condolences too.
Andy was known personally to a number of the management team, and had been part of our community for over 10 years. In recent months he had found the time to entertain us all on a regular schedule on Friday nights, and his show had become a fixture in supporting us all during the difficult times we are facing over lockdown. His perfectly crafted shows, along with the warm heart and enthusiasm he gave to us all, will be sorely missed. All of us at Reach send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
We know many members of Reach wish to find a way to show their gratitude for what Andy gave to us, and to find a way to reflect on his time as part of this community. For the next 3 weeks (29/01, 05/02, 12/02) where Andy’s regular Friday show would have been (from 21:00 - 23:00), Andy’s show will remain in the schedule and a dance playlist will play-out in his memory. In addition, the 9pm news on each of these occasions will also be replaced by a moment of silence.
We understand the passing of a fellow member will be a shock and upsetting for so many, and we also appreciate many of our community may wish to honour their friend and colleague in other ways on air. Whilst we believe these types of actions are part of what makes this community so special, we also ask you allow the family and close-friends of Andy the space and privacy, as they dictate, to grieve in a timely manner.
Wishing you all remain safe, and thank you DJ Andy Brookes for everything you gave to us all.
With deepest sympathies,
Everyone involved in the running of Reach OnAir.
